The Quran Revelation Night
The Night That Changed the World – ليلة القدر
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Qadr:
Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, marks the blessed night when the Quran was first revealed — a night that Allah ﷻ describes as “better than a thousand months.” سبحان الله — one single night carrying rewards greater than an entire lifetime. It is a night when the heavens open, angels descend, and peace prevails until dawn.
How Revelation Began – بداية الوحي

During this period, he began to see true dreams that came to pass exactly as he saw them. These visions were a gentle introduction, preparing him for the great weight of revelation that was about to descend.
The First Revelation – أول وحي
Then came the night that changed human history.
Narrated by Aisha (RA), the Prophet ﷺ said:
“An angel came to me and said, ‘Read!’
I said, ‘I do not know how to read.’
He embraced me tightly and repeated, ‘Read!’ This happened three times until he said:
﴿ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ خَلَقَ الإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ عَلَّمَ الإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ﴾
(Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:1–5)
These were the first words of the Quran, revealed by Angel Jibreel (Gabriel, عليه السلام). With them began the final and eternal message of guidance for mankind.
The Prophet’s Reaction – ردة فعل النبي ﷺ
The weight of this encounter was overwhelming. Trembling, shaken, and unsure, the Prophet ﷺ rushed home to his beloved wife, Khadijah (RA), calling out:
“Cover me! Cover me!”
He narrated the entire event, fearing for himself. But Khadijah (RA), with wisdom and reassurance, comforted him, saying:
“By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You uphold family ties, speak the truth, carry the burdens of others, honour your guests, and assist those in need.”
These words show her deep recognition of the Prophet’s character and her immediate trust in the truth of his experience.
The First Believer – أول من آمن
Khadijah (RA) became the very first believer in Islam. Her unwavering support and immediate faith symbolize the strength of conviction, love, and partnership. She not only stood beside the Prophet ﷺ in his moment of fear, but also sacrificed her wealth, comfort, and life for the cause of Islam.
Through her example, we learn that the journey of faith often requires courage, trust, and sacrifice.
The Gradual Revelation – نزول القرآن بالتدرج
The Quran did not descend all at once, but gradually over 23 years. Each revelation responded to real-life events, guiding the Prophet ﷺ and shaping a new society based on justice, mercy, and truth.
- Some verses addressed social problems like oppression, slavery, and dishonesty.
- Others provided laws on prayer, fasting, and charity.
- Many gave stories of past prophets, offering lessons of patience, faith, and perseverance.
This gradual revelation helped strengthen the believers’ faith, address their challenges, and transform the Arabian Peninsula — and eventually, the world.
A Universal and Eternal Message – رسالة خالدة
The Quran is not a book of the past — it is a living miracle. Preserved word-for-word for more than 1,400 years, it continues to inspire and guide humanity. Millions of Muslims across the globe memorise it, recite it daily in their prayers, and live by its timeless teachings.
It calls towards:
- Tawheed (Oneness of Allah ﷻ)
- Justice and compassion
- Forgiveness and mercy
- Hope and resilience

Lessons for Us Today – دروس وعبر

- Knowledge is light – The first command was “Read”, reminding us that seeking knowledge is an act of worship.
- Faith requires support – Just as Khadijah (RA) supported the Prophet ﷺ, we must support one another in faith and good deeds.
- The Quran is our guide – It was revealed to shape individuals and societies. We must strive to live by it daily, not just recite it.
- Value Laylatul Qadr – Strive in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan, for the rewards of this night surpass a thousand months.
